Memory And The Brain

Memory is one of our greatest assets.  Remembering where we have been, what we have done and who we did it with are important.  Memory issues are often thought of as being something the senior population deals with.  We are seeing younger and younger people dealing with memory issues.  On a weekly basis, we are seeing men and women in their thirties and forties having problems remembering basic information.

We help a lot of people in our office who have a history of head trauma.  Many of these traumas are blows to the head that occurred while in contact sports.  Sports can be fun and help us in many ways.  With sports, come injuries.  If you have suffered a blow to the head or know you have had a concussion, we suggest you get a brain map.  This includes the kids.  Blows to the head at a young age matter.

There is hope for these cases.  For more than a decade we have helped people with memory issues.  Our program involves brain mapping to find the weak or unbalanced area and a combination of neurofeedback, brain rehab exercises and nutrition to restore function.  Brain maps are a 15 minute, non-invasive, computerized, EEG analysis of brain function.  Maps help us determine the location of the problem area and allow for targeted care.

Neurofeedback is like a computerized workout for the brain.  This type of therapy helps us restore the proper electrical activity that is often lost in cases of concussion and blows to the head.  The electrical activity of the brain is associated with the function of the brain.  Certain highs and lows are associated with neurological symptoms.  This is especially true for the beta waves (13-30 hertz).  Beta waves are associated with executive function (learning, communication, emotional control, and memory).
