Isn’t It Time To Try A More Holistic Approach To ADD Treatment?

ADD Treatment Atlanta, Attention Deficit Disorder Treatment AtlantaNearly one third of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD have been diagnosed before the age of six years old according to a recent CNN report. The report said that there was a “promising trend” about how children with ADHD are being diagnosed earlier and following standard procedures.

The report also says how rates of ADHD have been on the increase for over a decade at around 5%. Since there is no conclusive test for ADD or ADHD, it is predominantly difficult to diagnose in children younger than six. There is a probability of misdiagnosis with all the neurobehavioral issues.

Physicians are currently following standard guidelines in making the ADD diagnosis, however there is a strong need to gather information from numerous sources to be correct. This includes collecting information from the teachers, parents or others that are close to the child.  The primary physician usually diagnoses most children.

When taking this method in diagnosing ADHD, it has substantial limitations. Physicians are pushed to do more in less time, and basically do not have time to spend with patients and their family members. Attempting to collect more information is frequently difficult for them to obtain. Besides behavioral symptoms, there are genetic factors that play a part as well. It is a recurrent indicator that if a man and a woman both have ADD, the chances of their child having ADD symptoms is around 75%.
